About Shyambazar
Shyambazar is one of the original 1984 stations of Kolkata Metro — India's first metro. It serves the famous Shyambazar five-point crossing (Panch Math), a key commercial and cultural hub of North Kolkata.
The neighborhood is famous for traditional Bengali cuisine, sweet shops (the legendary Bhim Chandra Nag), and old-Kolkata atmosphere.
Shyambazar sits under the five-point crossing that every Kolkata resident knows from the equestrian statue of Subhas Chandra Bose at its centre. The station opened on 13 August 1994, when the tunnel was pushed one stop north from Belgachia, and it is underground with a single island platform. The surrounding streets are north Kolkata at its most characteristic: narrow lanes, old family houses, and a crossing where five roads and the tram tracks meet at once.
