About Chandni Chowk
Chandni Chowk is famous for the surrounding electronics wholesale market — the largest in eastern India. From smartphones and laptops to electronic components. The historic Bow Barracks Anglo-Indian neighbourhood is also nearby.
Chandni Chowk opened on 2 October 1994, when the tunnel was extended one stop north of Esplanade, and it is underground with a single island platform. Above it is the electronics and hardware market that gives the station its usefulness — a warren of small shops selling components, cables, cameras and repairs that draws people from across the state. New Market and the Esplanade bus and tram terminus are both within easy walking distance.
