About Park Street

Park Street is one of Kolkata's most iconic streets — once known as "the food street that never sleeps". The street is lined with historic restaurants (Mocambo, Trincas, Peter Cat), modern cafes, the iconic Park Hotel, bookstores, and the Bengal Club.

Christmas on Park Street with elaborate light decorations is a Kolkata institution. The historic South Park Street Cemetery is also nearby.

Park Street opened on the first day of metro service, 24 October 1984, and is underground with a single island platform. The street above needs no introduction in Kolkata: restaurants and bars that have been going for generations, the Christmas crowds that close the road in late December, and at its western end the South Park Street Cemetery, a walled eighteenth-century burial ground that is one of the quietest places in the city. The Indian Museum and Asiatic Society are both nearby.
