About Shobhabazar Sutanuti

Underground station in the historic Sutanuti area — one of the three original villages that merged to form Calcutta. The Shobhabazar Rajbari (royal palace) is one of the most photographed heritage buildings, especially during Durga Puja.

The double name is the point. Sutanuti was one of the three villages — with Gobindapur and Kalikata — from which the colonial city grew, and this station sits in what is left of it: the old Sovabazar Rajbari, the riverside ghats, and the streets that fill during Durga Puja with some of the oldest bonedi bari pujas in the city. It opened on 19 February 1995 and is underground with a single island platform. Ahiritola and Bagbazar ghats are a short walk west.
