About Girish Park
Girish Park is an underground station in central-north Kolkata, named after the great Bengali theatre personality Girish Chandra Ghosh. The Marble Palace — a 19th-century Italian-style mansion full of marble statues and paintings — is the area's major heritage attraction.
Girish Park is named for Girish Chandra Ghosh, the actor and playwright who shaped the Bengali stage in the nineteenth century, and the station sits close to the theatre district that grew around him. It opened on 19 February 1995, underground, with a single island platform. Marble Palace — the private mansion-museum with its statuary and its resident birds — is within walking distance, as is the northern end of the Chitpur Road printing and instrument trade.
