About Belgachia

Underground station serving the Belgachia neighbourhood. Close to the Belgachia Milk Colony and Indian Statistical Institute.

Belgachia opened on 12 November 1984 alongside Dum Dum, making it one of the two oldest stations still in service. It is underground, with a single island platform — the layout used all along the original north–south tunnel. The station serves a dense residential quarter and the Belgachia veterinary college. Its age shows in one respect that matters: like most of the 1984–1995 tunnel section, it was built before step-free access was a design requirement, and it is not recorded as having lift access to the platform.
