About Belgachia
Underground station serving the Belgachia neighbourhood. Close to the Belgachia Milk Colony and Indian Statistical Institute.
Belgachia opened on 12 November 1984 alongside Dum Dum, a few weeks after the first Esplanade–Bhowanipore section. It is underground, with a single island platform — the layout used all along the original north–south tunnel. The station serves a dense residential quarter and the Belgachia veterinary college. Its age shows in one respect that matters: like most of the 1984–1995 tunnel section, it was built before step-free access was a design requirement, and it is not recorded as having lift access to the platform.
