About Maidan

Maidan is the metro stop for Kolkata's vast central green expanse — the city's "lungs". The Maidan covers over 1,000 acres and hosts cricket grounds, the Royal Calcutta Turf Club, and the iconic Victoria Memorial.

Maidan is the station for the enormous central park that gives Kolkata its breathing space — the Brigade Parade Ground, the football clubs, the Fort William glacis and the horse-drawn carriages that still wait along the edges. It opened on 24 October 1984 with the first section of the line and is underground with a single island platform. Eden Gardens, the Victoria Memorial and the Race Course are all reachable on foot from here, which makes it a matchday and event station as much as a commuter one.
