About Netaji Bhavan

Named after the historic Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose ancestral home — now a museum dedicated to one of India's great freedom fighters. The Bhowanipore neighbourhood is residential with heritage buildings and small markets.

Netaji Bhavan was the southern end of the very first metro section on 24 October 1984, when it was still called Bhawanipore. It was renamed for the house a few streets away where Subhas Chandra Bose lived and from which he made his escape from British surveillance in 1941; the building is now a museum. The station is underground with a single island platform, and it is one of the few in the older tunnel section recorded as having step-free access to the platform.
