About Howrah

Howrah Metro is directly connected to Howrah Junction Railway Station — India's second-busiest railway terminal handling over a million passengers daily. The metro station is underground at ~30 m depth. Howrah Bridge is just outside the railway station.

Howrah is the deepest metro station in India — the platforms sit roughly thirty metres down, well below the bed of the Hooghly, which the line crosses immediately to the east. It opened to passengers on 15 March 2024, nine days after the inauguration, directly beneath Howrah Junction, one of the busiest railway terminals in the world, and the point of the whole exercise is the connection: a passenger off a long-distance train can now be at Esplanade in a few minutes rather than queueing for the bridge.
