The Orange Line (Line 6) is the New Garia–Airport corridor. Its operational section runs 9.9 km from Kavi Subhash (New Garia) to Beleghata, serving the rapidly growing eastern fringe of Kolkata along the EM Bypass.
The Kavi Subhash–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay section opened on 6 March 2024 and the extension to Beleghata followed on 22 August 2025. The line is being built onward towards the city’s biosciences hub and ultimately Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.
The Orange Line was built to interchange with the Blue Line at Kavi Subhash. Since 28 July 2025 the Blue Line platforms at Kavi Subhash have been closed to passengers because of structural damage: Blue Line trains terminate at Shahid Khudiram, and the Blue ↔ Orange interchange at Kavi Subhash cannot be used. No reopening date had been announced as of September 2026. Its stations are named after celebrated Bengali cultural figures — Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and others.

- When complete, the New Garia–Airport line will be one of the longest metro corridors in Kolkata.
- Several stations are named after Bengali cultural icons — filmmaker Satyajit Ray, director Ritwik Ghatak and singer Hemanta Mukhopadhyay.
- It runs largely elevated along the EM Bypass, an arterial that previously had no rail transit.
- Its interchange with the Blue Line at Kavi Subhash (New Garia) is suspended while the Blue Line platforms there are closed (since 28 July 2025).
