About Sealdah

Sealdah Metro interchanges with Sealdah Railway Station — Kolkata's second-largest railway terminal and major suburban rail hub.

Sealdah opened to passengers on 14 July 2022, and for three years it was the western end of the Green Line's eastern segment — trains from Salt Lake stopped here and went no further, because the tunnel to Esplanade was still being finished through the difficult ground under Bowbazar. It is underground, built as a Spanish solution with side platforms and an island, which the volume demands: Sealdah railway station above is the terminal for the northern and eastern suburban network and moves an extraordinary number of commuters every morning.
