About Bengal Chemical

Named after the historic Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals company.

Bengal Chemical is named for the works founded by Prafulla Chandra Ray in 1901 — a chemist and nationalist who set out to prove that India could manufacture its own pharmaceuticals — and the plant is still there beside the station. It opened on 14 February 2020 with the Green Line's first section and is elevated. The surrounding stretch of the EM Bypass corridor is a mix of light industry, offices and the residential blocks of Kankurgachi.
