About Howrah Maidan
Howrah Maidan is the western terminus of the Green Line. It is one of the deepest underground stations in India at 33 metres below ground level. The Howrah Maidan is a major open green space.
Howrah Maidan is the western end of the Green Line and the start of the most unusual ride on the network: the next stretch of track runs in a tunnel beneath the Hooghly, the first stretch of underwater metro built in India. The station was inaugurated on 6 March 2024 and carried its first passengers nine days later, is underground with a single island platform, and sits under the open ground that gives it its name, a short walk from Howrah's own dense street grid and from the approaches to the Rabindra Setu.
