About Mahakaran
Serves the new Government of West Bengal secretariat (Mahakaran) and the historic BBD Bagh area.
Mahakaran means 'the great office', and that is precisely what the station serves: the administrative core around BBD Bagh, with the state secretariat, the shipping and railway headquarters, and the banking streets that empty out completely at weekends. It opened to passengers on 15 March 2024 and is underground with a single island platform. It is the first stop on the east bank after the river crossing, and the Millennium Park and the Strand riverfront are just to the west.
